Counselling, Psychotherapy, and Therapy

Counselling, Psychotherapy and Therapy.

I am trained as a counsellor and psychotherapist and I also use the term therapist.  I understand that there can be confusion about these different words and what they mean. The professional body of which I am a member, The British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy [BACP], does not distinguish between these terms and says:

We use the word ‘therapy’ to cover talking therapies, such as counselling, psychotherapy and coaching, and ‘therapist’ to include ‘counsellor’ and ‘psychotherapist’.

To find out more about these terms you can watch this video or visit the BACP website.

If you would like to discuss these terms please get in touch.
